The Alcorn County Board of Supervisors has voted to move forward with preliminary actions to put a landfill in Wenasoga on Forrest School Road.
This was proposed 12 years ago and the board of supervisors realized it was the wrong location and were supposed to sell the land. Now, we are being told the current board doesn't have to support that decision and they feel they have no alternatives - but it appears they are not actively looking for alternatives.
The distance that the citizens in Alcorn County will have to drive makes this an undesirable location for everyone. The roads they will have to drive on make it a dangerous location for everyone. Add that to the fact that there is a cemetery located on the site and you have created a situations that will not benefit the citizens of Alcorn County - it will only make a bad situation worse. Ultimately the costs to the taxpayers of Alcorn County could be astronomical.
